A leave of absence is a period of approved time away from work where an employee keeps their job status and employment rights. In Ontario Leave of Absence, Alberta Leave of Absence, and British Columbia Leave of Absence, employment laws provide for various types of job-protected leaves. While each province has its own rules about eligibility, pay, and length of leave, the key is the same: non-unionized employees can’t be penalized or terminated for exercising their right to take a leave.
